Abstract

This study aims to examine recent research developments regarding the teaching of fractions using the Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education (PMRI) approach in elementary schools (SD/MI). A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method was employed by screening Indonesian and English scientific articles from the Google Scholar, Portal Garuda, and Scopus/Crossref databases. The review results indicate that the PMRI approach is consistently effective in enhancing the understanding of fraction concepts, learning outcomes, interest, student engagement, mathematical literacy, thinking skills, and collaborative learning. This success is driven by the characteristics of PMRI, which initiates learning from real-world contexts, utilizes concrete media, and fosters interaction as well as the gradual construction of concepts. Recent findings also prove that integrating PMRI with digital media, interactive modules, and ethnomathematical contexts significantly enhances the quality of fraction instruction.
